The Limits of a DIY Receipt Scanner
SparkReceipt originally built its own receipt capture pipeline using OpenCV-based edge detection and perspective correction. The pipeline worked on simple documents but produced inconsistent results with long or crumpled receipts, low contrast, and uneven lighting.
For an accounting platform where scanned receipts are frequently reviewed by bookkeepers and accountants, image quality directly impacts the user experience. SparkReceipt needed a scanning SDK capable of delivering reliable edge detection, perspective correction, and enhancement across both Android and iOS.
